Rose Bay

Poised at the top of a steep site above an old riverbed and overgrown garden, this Californian Bungalow restoration had at the heart of its brief the need to relocate the living spaces on the lower ground level to establish a meaningful relationship between house and garden.

Inspired by Ray and Charles Eames and their Case Study No. 8 house of 1949, our solution was attaching a new finely detailed, two storey, prefab steel structure to the original liver brick bungalow and connecting the new and old via a stairway and sculptural light well.
