Wamberal Beach

Built to withstand a 100 year storm event this house enjoys pure beachfront and contours into the sand dune with headland to headland views.

We used robust and coastal appropriate materials in their natural state such as off form concrete, fibre cement sheeting and hardwood wharf decking enabling the home to weather gracefully. Keeping planting to a simple grassy sand dune style re-established the local native micro-climate whilst stabilizing the dune.

We generated a sense of sophisticated spatial drama by creating an internal double height space housing a suspended steel and timber walkway. Framed with exposed Tasmanian Oak rafters and raked plywood, this vaulted space opens up on the protected side of the house to the studio, guest wing and lap pool.
