Aperture House

Aperture House

The Aperture house sits off and steps down a weathered and undercut sandstone escarpment in a field of large boulders on a large waterfront site.

Conceptually, the Aperture house is a composition of framed forms that that occupy the cliff site to create a sequence of living spaces that frame the views as they change. The larger scale of the horizontal rectilinear concrete apertures is juxtaposed by the smaller scale and detailing of the black zinc cladded apertures.

The two upper-level black forms are separated like binoculars, the eastern portion making a visual connection across the deep water of Sailors Bay to Castlecrag Marina with the western pavilion angled to the Northbridge baths.
