Beach Haven

Beach Haven, a significant refurbishment of an existing six level, Inter War residential flat building positioned in the intertidal zone of Bondi Beach on Ben Buckler headland. While being an iconic location, the site is constrained, highly sensitive and the exposure to the both the public and the elements can be extreme.

While contributing to the sense of place, the new language of the building is respectful, clear and considered. High quality materials are detailed for the harsh coastal conditions.

To the western facade, six new balconies cantilever over the famous North Bondi boat ramp, outward facing curved concrete elements are designed to mitigate wave run up in storm events and present as sculptural elements in calmer conditions.

The existing masonry building is further punctuated by Juliette balconies and is coloured pale coral to marry in with the earthy sandstone tones of the Ben Buckler headland at sunset.
